THE MIRACLE OF LIFE

Back To The Pen

30.X.98

I close my eyes in holy dread
Await the crushing blow that never comes.
In large, lonely, marble halls
Confetti falls (who knows from where?)
And colors the long, lonely porticoes
Where fasts and vigils have led
To only this
Wonderful sacrament of today.
I was embraced
Until the sad echoes of all my deepest fears were
Silenced.
You anointed my frightened places
With the oil of your understanding.
I wonder if you know how you are blessed -
The friend to whom the priest confessed.

- Father Jerry Kaywell
