At work in their state-of-the-art digital music studios in Los Angeles, he and his partner will win several prestigious awards for their work over the next 7 years. Jerry takes a soul-searching break from his Hollywood career. After a five-month solitary pilgrimage including Lourdes, Avila, Assisi, Patmos and 30 days in the Holy Land, he is convinced he is called to the priesthood. He returns home to Santa Monica, California to discover he is diagnosed with lymphatic cancer. He begins chemotherapy and attends group sessions at The Wellness Community along with Gilda Radner and Gene Wilder. | |||||

Jerry records with the vocal group The Winans on the album Let My People Go. This work earns him a Grammy Award for Gospel Album of the Year. He donates his musical talents to St. Monica Parish in Santa Monica, California. He learns the art of meditation, using guided imagery tapes. Later in the year his mother, Grace Kaywell, is killed in an automobile accident. He attends daily Mass and vows to become a Diocesan priest if his health allows. | |||||
